Celine Dion cancels her concerts scheduled until April 2024 for health reasons

Celine Dion is canceling around forty concerts scheduled in Europe until April 2024 for health reasons, the organizers of her tour announced on Friday May 26 in a press release sent to Agence France-Presse.

Affected by a rare neurological pathology against which she “continue treatment”the Quebec singer had already announced in December that she was canceling or postponing the concerts planned in Europe between February and July 2023.

“I’m so sorry to disappoint you again. I’m working very hard to regain my strength, but touring can be demanding and difficult (…). Although it breaks my heart, it’s better to cancel everything now, until I’m really ready to go back on stage.”, says the 55-year-old star, quoted in the press release. Celine Dion adds that he “would be unfair to (the viewers) to postpone the concerts once again”.

Stiff person syndrome

Celine Dion’s last concert dates back to March 2020, in Newark (United States). After fifty concerts in North America, his world tour “Courage World Tour” had been interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. This tour had never been able to resume, the singer then explaining to suffer from muscle spasms.

The next scheduled concert was in Paris (La Défense Arena) on the 1er September, the first of a series of six shows in the French capital. She was to travel across Europe, starting in Amsterdam at the end of August and ending in London.

Celine Dion has stiff person syndrome (SPR), a condition whose exact cause is unknown but likely to be of autoimmune origin. Affecting about one in a million people, this syndrome causes severe pain and difficulty in moving, preventing certain physical activities.

“The medical team that accompanies Céline follows the evolution of the disease and its treatment”, said his entourage. Little information has circulated about his daily life and his exact state of health, leaving room for speculation.

“Tickets purchased for the forty-two canceled dates will be refunded”the tour organizers added.
